bookstore

Last night I walked into a bookstore for the first time in years, or at least so it seemed. I wanted to walk slowly, to breathe deeply, to let my senses just enjoy being surrounded by so many wonderful treats. Unfortunately, with 3 small kids, it’s just a little impossible.

I browsed the journal area, and was in awe of all the beautiful things that I’ve been missing out on! My great little find was called, ecojot, made with 100% recycled paper and comes in the most beautiful designs ever!

They are available at Chapters/Indigo here in Canada, and a few places online, but really, there is no substitute for touch, is there?

nantaka joy

It’s Nantaka Joy’s new line of journals, and they are just beautiful! They are only available at select stores in the States right now, and I tried to order one online, but the shipping to Canada was more than the price of the journal itself! So, ummm, needless to say, I changed my mind…

I do hope that I can get one though – I am completely in love with the scalloped edges! It looks like the perfect journal to take everywhere in my handbag!

html background

I am trying to follow up with Lu’s Art Slam, the first assignment is backgrounds.

When I was in university, my parents were having an incredibly difficult time financially, so difficult that they had to declare bankruptcy. My 3 siblings and I had to get used to living without a lot of the little luxuries to which we had become so accustomed, but I think that the experience made up stronger individuals and more emphatic souls.

I never had a job in my life, but when I started university it became a necessity for us all to start earning an income, it was at this time that one of my classmates suggested that I learn the ‘up and coming’ technology, HTML. I remember that I begged my mother to buy a $36 ‘do-it-yourself html’ book, and I had to beg because $36 was a huge deal to us in those days, she did get it for me, and as they say the rest is history!

The background is torn pages from one of my first html books, and it represents not only a huge part of my life today, but also a very difficult time in my past, that thankfully we were able to overcome. The information in the book is outdated and no longer useful, so a little creative recycling is a great way to keep it’s spirit alive.

Leaf & Bamboo Journal

I found Ten Thousand Villages via How about orange.

They have a small, but really wonderful collection of journals and scrapbooks, and I love the mission of this company! I think I’ll be adding a new journal to my collection very soon!

Identity

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

My first real art journal attempt. I tried to convey my identity, which clearly is difficult; there are many times that I do not fit into the moulds that society tries to define for me and I love to think of myself as a ’stereotype-breaker’!

We live in a world where stereotyping does not work, where judging people based solely upon their appearance is unfair, where culture is not isolated to a specific region – let’s respect individuality.
